Ellawala Waterfall is a very magnificent water fall situated near Wellawaya city. This place became very famous in recent years within local visitors and soon this beauty became a very famous landmark in Wellawaya area.

What you can see on the way to Ella-Wala
Today many visitors from local and foreign countries tends to visit this water fall and the journey to this fall is also stunning. On the way you can see the newly built Uma-Oya project Alikota Ara Reservoir.
After you pass the reservoir you will be travelling through a very isolated area where only few people are living. Environment is very calm and peaceful. It’s best if you can rent out a scooter so you can feel the surrounding environment freely.
After about 6km you will find a place to park your vehicle and from that point you will have to take a walk. You will need to walk another 1 km through out the jungle which is also a great experience to your journey. You will have to cross the river and path goes throughout the jungle.
At the end of the path you will find this hidden beauty and please be carful if you wish to take a bath. Past few months many people drowned suddenly and local authorities have now prohibited people from getting into water. So it’s best not to take any risks because according to local villagers there are many deep pits near water splashing area and even they do not know the depth of these pits. They says that people get stuck in these pits and that’s why they can not come back on the water. So it is a big ‘NO’ if you plan to get into the water.
It is better if you could plan this trip in early morning or after the sunset. At this time it’s easier and less drowsy when you travel and it is a bit tired if you travel in the noon. Please be careful to protect our environment while you travel and try keep all of these natural resources as it is. Thank you!
